Summer is storm season around here. We mostly fear hail storms rather than just the “normal” thunder/lighting/wind/rain events. Golf-ball size hailstones are just so damaging. Just about all of the roofs in Armidale (being iron roofs) had to be replaced after a major hail storm in 1996, for example.

This hail here, looking out my office window, is the first hail storm of the season.

It’s days like these that make the drive home all the more en-lighten-ing.

Where would we photographers be if we didn’t have the occasional solo tree to break up an otherwise featureless landscape.

It’s that time of year when it’s still light as I head home from work. I’ve come to expect some wonderful sunsets - especially when there’s a storm about.

An interesting shot of multiple generations of the homestead at East Kunderang. Don’t quote me but I think the rightmost building is the original building (though added onto), the leftmost is the kitchen (though just the most recent incarnation of that), the “breezeway” in the centre is the covered over space between the buildings, and the section with the fireplace is an added on living area.

In contrast to yesterday’s photograph of the small, dark living area at East Kunderang, the kitchen is new, modern and light.

Normally, as bush-walkers, and even though the East Kunderang Homestead is located within the Oxley Wild Rivers National Park, we would keep well away from paying guests who might reasonably expect some privacy (if fact, given it’s remoteness, most guests would be extremely surprised to see anybody else in the vicinity). In this instance though we struck it lucky and were invited to inspect the house.

Cedar is used extensively throughout; the aim of this image is to illustrate the wood and grain and is taken looking along a wall that forms the breezeway between buildings.
