Copperhead day

The trip to Cathedral Rock National Park saw us coming across three Copperhead snakes on and around the tracks. Two of them are pictured here:

Copperheads aren’t high on the list of venomous snakes in Australia, but still toxic enough to kill a human.

Even though it’s a cool day and the snakes are a little lethargic, we’ll not get in their way.

[Update: Before telling me that these aren't copperheads, international visitors should realise that these are Australian Copperheads, genus Austrelaps, and read the wikipedia entry for further information].

Rural

Rural-scape: grassland, fence, old power pole

What does “rural” mean to me? I live “rurally”. I live in the midst of farmland. Everything around me is rural. How can I convey that to others? Is it the land, the animals, the buildings, all of above? In the end I decided on this image. Paddocks (looking quite meadow-like at this time of year), old tumble-down fences, an old power pole, and gum trees behind.

An entry to Photo Friday: Rural challenge.
