While looking for the remains of an 80-year-old camp site used by a previous owner of the land we came across this dead tree which had had bark stripped from it. The marks we can see were made by the blade of a steel axe. The bark was, perhaps, used to construct a “gunyah” – a basic shelter made from bark and tree branches – either by white settlers or local aborigines who were employed at times to ring-bark trees to clear land.
