First stop on our week-end trip was Emmaville (pop. 350), about 40 km north of Glen Innes. Originally named Vegetable Creek, Emmaville became a service centre for the tin mining boom in the late 19th century. A hail-storm has recently caused damage to a large part of the town. Here, the Emmaville Post Office roof replacement has almost been completed.

The Club Hotel in Armidale was closed for several months while it was rebuilt from the inside out. It reopened a few months ago as the “white bullâ€?. I was surprised that it says that it was established in 1886. I’ve yet to discover whether a hotel by the same name (“white bullâ€?) opened in 1886, or if it just means that this building has been a hotel since 1886 (perhaps with various names).
And why is the white bull painted in red?
