
The words of the song “The Diamantina Droverâ€? still run through my mind – “For the rain never falls on the dusty Diamantinaâ€?. Written over 20 years ago by Hugh McDonald, it’s become an Australian classic. It relates the story of a drover along the Diamantina River for whom time has flown in the outback.
Here, though, the Diamantina River, seen as we leave Birdsville, is anything but dusty.
