Thorny gollach

Black-thorn bush

A thorn of the Blackthorn bush (Bursaria spinosa). It’s about 1 cm (half an inch) long; the tiny lichen growing on it is what caught my eye.

I was thinking of the word “thorny and the title Thorny Gollach came to my mind (through word association). [A Horny Gollach is the NE-Scotland name for an earwig. Here's a poem about it (written in Scots of course)].
