I passed by a grass fire by the creek in town this afternoon. Given it’s still winter, it’s extremely unlikely to have spontaneouly burst into flames. It serves to remind us, though, that there’s a high chance of an especially bad fire season ahead of us this coming summer given the dry conditions that are still with us. Tomorrow, August 1, sees the early start of the official Bushfire Danger Period. It’s two months early this year.
