Rubbish dump on a local farm

Not all by any means, but many rural properties have a rubbish tip somewhere around the place. Many dumps are hidden from view and many property owners dispose of large metal objects in gullies to slow the flow of stormwater and thus lessen erosion damge. The dump here, though, is easily seen from the road.

Sorry I couldn’t access your sound commentary but the photos are great – very evocative

You can tell a lot about the people who dumped this rubbish.

Without seeing the whole site, this scrap heap is not that old. There is no change in the vegetation in between the objects. Even in a heavily grazed padoc, an old dump will have concentrations of weeds. Someone has shifted most of this stuff from another site in the last few years, probably in a single effort. Everything is stacked next to each other. Hardly any of it is piled up.

The car is most likely not a road crash. I’d say it’s been smashed about and rolled a few times in order to get it there. The neat pile of car windows in the foreground indicate it is the remains of a canabalisation and restoration project. The tanks and white goods – I’d say someone’s cleaned up around a house and a nearby shed.
