Shoogly lines

Railway lines looking 'all over the place'

The shimmer from the heat haze doesn’t help, but these lines were already “shoogly” (unsteady, wobbly, wavy). These railway lines would have been much used once upon a time when freight was sent by rail (and should still be in my opinion). One of the lines is the through line running north of Armidale. Unused now, trains once ran as far as the Queensland border where passengers and goods were transferred to Queensland Railway services for all points to Brisbane.
