A red-bellied black snake took a sojourn outside the house this afternoon. It was around 5 ft in length, and broad of girth! It was a tad obscured by the grass through which it was tracking, but I didn’t feel like asking it to move into a clearer position. It was, more than likely, seeking out frogs for supper.
Red-bellied black snakes are not uncommon around here – we keep an wary eye out for them (and other snakes) when walking through the bush. Red-bellied black snakes are venomous but shy. ie they tend to turn tail and run rather than get aggressive.
