I was just about to head off to take some photographs outside when this storm burst. It had been promising to do something for a few hours – and so it did.

The heavy rain brought visibility down to a few hundred metres.
The rain lashed down the window, and can be seen outside passing the window at a 45 degree anlel due to the heavy winds.
The rain alternated from heavy to light to heavy again very quickly. This gave us a chance to see the storm clouds quite well. Many people were worried about the hail storm that had been forecast. The vast majority of Armidale’s vehicles and corrugated iron roofs were damaged in a major hail storm several years ago. That memory lingers on.
I took the opportunity to practice rain shots using a high shutter speed to capture the fast moving water.
Some heavy drops were quite impressive as they bounced off the pavers.
A particularly heavy torrent of rain – it only lasted a few tens of seconds at this intensity though.
