I took a trip down to the old gasworks at lunchtime today. The gasworks, which first saw the light of day in the late 19th century, haven’t been used in years – LPG is now trucked to the town instead. The site has been the subject of some controversy – how much will it cost to clean up any contamination, and who pays? The whole block is also being considered as a potential site for a large shopping centre.
