Here and there

Today’s photographs are a selection taken early this morning, and later while I went zipping around town, here and there, running some errands.

An audioBlog accompanies these photographs [4.4 Mbytes, 9 min 5 sec duration]. The audio commentary is also distributed as a podcast. You need to subscribe to my RSS2 feed towards the bottom of the right hand column on this page and you need to use aggregator software capable of utilising this.

Sheep next door
Just to illustrate how close we are to neighbouring farmers, here’s the paddock 100 m (110 yards) to our north.

Indigofera again
I’m still attempting to take the perfect shot of pea flowers (Fabaceae). This particular vine runs up the fence enclosing the dog run. Not too bad for a hand-held compact camera (Nikon Coolpix 3700).

Royal Hotel bottleshop
In Armidale running some errands, I pass by the front of the Royal Hotel bottleshop (off-licence). Of all the little details, the thing that I notice most is the small blackened spot on the wall due to smoke from the flue. Surely it wouldn’t have been too much effort to have the flue another 4 or 5 metres higher?

Saint Patrick's Orphanage (now apartments)
Once upon a time this magnificent building housed the area’s orphans. St. Patrick’s Orphanage has now been converted to contain several large apartments. I’ve not been inside but I’m told they’re quite impressive.

Wall of pink blossom
Blossoms still abound. This tree is to the north of St Mary & St Joseph’s Cathedral (which provides the backdrop).

Cathedral
The north-east corner of St Mary & St Joseph’s Cathedral, Armidale.
