Going nowhere

Railway lines north not used now

Here we are at the north end of Armidale Railway Station. The lines disappearing in a northerly direction aren’t used any more. Once upon a time this was the Main North Line taking traffic from Sydney to the Queensland border where they had to change to the Queensland railway system and their different rail gauge.

To the right is an old railcar being renovated. There are plans to run tourist traffic to Glen Innes, about 100km (60 miles) north of Armidale - whether that actually happens remains to be seen. The cost of maintaining the north line may prove too high.

Look up!

Large gum tree

Not far from where I work there are some huge gum trees. They’re 30m (100ft) order of magnitude. These trees don’t have dense leaf cover, as evidenced by the amount of sky that can be seen, so don’t provide a major source of shade in the heat of summer.

It was a blustery day today - the wind kept blowing me around so it was a tad difficult to get anything like a sharp image. I don’t even think a tripod would have helped - not that I had it with me.
