Vine entwine

Vine entwine

Just outside the house there’s a grape vine which is being trained to climb onto wires atop a pergola to give some shade in the summer. The vine has almost lost all its leaves at the time of the year. I was intrigued by the amount of entwining that the vine had done upon a grass stalk as the vine searched for something to climb along (the grass stalk had been pulled horizontal).

Another cool morning this morning being -8C/17.5F (although it did reach 17C/62F during the day). Such is winter at 1020m/3400ft asl in inland Australia.

Mr Wallaby

Mr Wallaby

A solitary male swamp wallaby looked up at us as we passed by on this morning’s walk. He wasn’t at all nervous - indeed, he continued grazing as we watched.

Armidale recorded -7C/19F overnight, but I don’t think it was quite that cold with us - albeit the frost was pretty crunchy underfoot in places where the sun had yet to reach it.
